Baseball Home

WJAA baseball participates in an area instructional league along with the towns of Amherst and Milford. This is a traveling league and involves playing games at Shepard’s Park in Milford as well as Carnival Hill in Wilton. Baseball is open to all boys and girls* 7-9 years old (first through third grade). Evaluations will take place in March to determine the skill level of each player so that evenly matched teams can be created.

In past years, depending on turnout, WJAA has fielded a Rookie team and one Instructional team.

* WJAA Softball is available for girls 7 and 8 years of age as well.

This is the beginning level of baseball. The players are introduced to the game of baseball, learning the different positions and the basic rules of the game. There is emphasis on throwing, catching, fielding and hitting. Coaches pitch to their own players during games.

At this level, the players begin to play more competitively, using umpires and following the rules of Babe Ruth. Player pitching is introduced with the coach coming in to pitch after 4 balls are thrown. This level involves more rules and fundamentals of baseball.
