Baseball

WJAA offers Spring season Little League Baseball up to the Major League level. From youngest to oldest, the levels are: Rookies, Minors, and Majors.
Spring Season Time Frame: April to Mid June

WJAA baseball participates in an area instructional league along with the towns of Amherst, Merrimack, and Milford. This is a local traveling league and can involve playing games in Milford, Amherst, Merrimack, and Wilton. Baseball is open to all boys and girls* 6-12 years old. If needed, evaluations will take place in March to determine the skill level of each player so that evenly matched teams can be created.

WJAA fields teams for the following:
Rookies (6-8* years old)
Minors (9-10* years old)
Majors (11-12 years old)
* Player's skill level may require alternate assignment.

* WJAA Softball is an option, and available for girls 7 years of age and up.

ROOKIES:

This is the beginning level of baseball. The players are introduced to the game of baseball, learning the different positions and the basic rules of the game. There is emphasis on throwing, catching, fielding and hitting. Coaches pitch to their own players during games.

MINORS:

At this level, the players begin to play more competitively, using umpires and following the rules of Cal Ripken League. Player pitching is introduced and real baseballs are used. This level involves more rules and fundamentals of basic baseball. Being able to properly catch and throw a baseball is important starting in Minors.

MAJORS:

At this level, more experienced players now know the game of baseball. It is competitive with the normal rules, look, and feel of the big game.

T-Ball

T-Ball

T-Ball provides a fun introduction to the games of baseball and softball. Children will develop the basic fundamentals of throwing, fielding and hitting. Games are shortened in duration (usually 3-4 innings) and involve both hitting off an adjustable tee or coach pitched. Each team will bat through the line-up each inning. Only RIF (reduced injury factor) balls are used.

Children ages 5-6 years old (and some older 4's and younger 7 year olds whom have never played) will participate in one weekly night of practice and a fun game on Saturday mornings. All practices will take place at the FRES T-ball field. Games take place at FRES or Milford fields. Children should bring a glove and wear comfortable athletic clothes. Helmets and bats are provided by WJAA. Each player will be given a team hat and jersey. The season will run April-early June.
